Choose The Right Clothing For Your Baby

September 18, 2008

It is the responsibility of parents to buy clothing for their newborn child, especially since clothing is one of the most important essentials for sensitive skin of babies. However, baby clothes are most likely given by friends and family members to welcome the newborn child.

First in mind when buying clothing for a child is safety. Reliable clothing should clearly display good quality of materials on the label itself – most child’s clothing like crib beddings and other layettes today are flame retardant, ordered by law. Baby clothes with such cords are easily reached by toddlers, thus can cause pain and wound round for them.

As far as good quality of clothing is concerned, babies should feel the softness and comfortability of layettes. Clothing like one-piece, baby shirts, crib beddings, socks, hats and other layettes can be very expensive. Popular trends nowadays are personalized baby stuff, from toys and furniture to baby clothing. The design of clothing may vary from different themes. If you happen to have a pretty baby girl, you may choose clothings with the color scheme of pink, or make it personalized by scripting your child’s initials on the fabric. And for those savvy gift givers, still personalized baby gifts can make a lovely welcome present for the child. You may also consider giving baby gift basket filled with baby products and supplies – that include soft and comfy clothing and layettes of course. You can have these gift ideas ordered from online stores or at your local specialty stores.

Choose The Right Clothing For Your Child

Today, there are many fabrics that can be chosen in clothing for children. Clothing may be either natural or synthetic. For children, clothing made from natural materials is a great choice.

Most clothing that is made from natural fibers or fabrics will have a woven appearance. Most synthetic fabrics can be identified by their cut edges. Natural fabrics fray when cut. Synthetic materials are added to natural fibers to create a synthetic blend material.

The difference between natural fibers and fabrics is simple. Natural fibers are the threads that are woven to create a fabric. One type of natural fiber may be used to create different styles of fabrics.

For children, the best fiber sources are vegetable and animal based. The different fibers that are used to create vegetable or animal source fabrics include cotton, flax or linen, hemp, jute, ramie, silk, sisal and wool fabric types. Fur products are processed animal skin with the fur still on the skin. The different types of fabrics manufactured from natural fibers include broadcloth, jean type material, chino, camoflage, shirting, specialty dress fabrics, knit fabrics, velvet, velveteen, corduroy, satin, brocade and tapestry. Many specialty fabrics with a variety of qualities can be created from natural fabrics.

Natural fabrics can be further categorized as vegan or non-vegan. If you want to use only vegetable based fabrics, avoid any animal based materials and fibers.

Natural fabrics will help to regulate the body’s temperature. Unless synthetic fibers are blended with natural fibers in a woven fabric, synthetic fabrics generally trap heat and moisture next to the body, which is uncomfortable. In cold weather, synthetic fabrics are not as warm as natural fabrics. Natural fabrics have a hardy quality because of the woven, matted or knitted method of manufacture. Natural fibers can keep a child comfortable under different weather conditions and temperatures.
